ZoodulcisModeratorWelcome to Critter Fam! Crunchy Boi looks like he’s balancing a tiny Cheetoh. What a bright-eyed dude. When he was really little and not eating, what formula did you use to feed him by syringe?
ZoodulcisModeratorAs so many people hate to hear from scientists, the answer is, it all depends.
What part of the country do you live in. I ask because daylength matters.
What is your ambient room temperature? What is your pet’s artificial daylength as provided by you?
What is his age at this date? That is important because it can affect how much protein he craves? I’m thinking he is about 9 months, but I would like you to confirm.
When you respond to those questions, I will get back to you within 24 hours, generally less. At this point, I think there is cause for careful observation, but not cause for alarm where sickness is concerned. Bear in mind, I am a zoologist and not a vet, so I will advise and guide you as best I can.
ZoodulcisModeratorYes I can see how free crickets would be a good thing. Get your friends to go to this post and give you a critter gold. Or the post for Mitch, but not both. Get as many golds as you can on one post only in order to be in the best possible position to win. You should probably choose which one for them and ask them to support either Mitch or Shelia in their cricket quest.
ZoodulcisModeratorYes and you will probably have her in your life for quite some time. My best friend’s tarantula is 20 years old and still going strong! How many crickets does she eat each week?
ZoodulcisModeratorRuth looks like she is pretty comfortable. My knight Anole never came around so I will be interested in seeing how tame you are able to get yours to be.
ZoodulcisModeratorAh, another artist. Very nice. Have you had other beardies?
ZoodulcisModeratorWhat a sleepy head! How old is she and how long have you had her?
ZoodulcisModeratorI think I’ll pass on the free hugs, but thanks anyway. Do you handle Shelia very much or does she flick hairs?
ZoodulcisModeratorOh wow, you’re starting it this weekend! Would love to see pix as the construction progresses.
ZoodulcisModeratorThat’s good to know that he enjoys them for coolness. I would never have guessed. They do look cool. I personally always prefer really decorative habitats for my creatures. They are a pleasure to observe. That’s why when forum members have asked about the use of paper towels for the bottom of a terrarium, I always advise that they are perfectly fine, and preferable for some folks with super busy lifestyles who want to keep the bottom clean. But inside I cringe, thinking “Oh yuck, who wants to look at their pet cavorting on stained paper towels.” I have an artistic bent, and that white towel thing grosses me out. I like the idea of the crystals, though, and perhaps they even catch the light in interesting ways.
Is that Feline Pine in the bottom of Mitch’s enclosure?
ZoodulcisModeratorOh that’s right. Sorry. And tarantulas are awesome! Be sure to check out my tarantula guide on this website. Maybe it will give you some ideas and create more serenity for your wife. Of course, you may be wanting to get a gimongous insect just to weird her out and get her to entertain you even more!
ZoodulcisModeratorWhen the time comes, please let us know what you think of your system overall, such as what has worked well and things that you would or are changing. How long do you think it will be before he is big enough to require new digs?
ZoodulcisModeratorWinston looks young. Once he is bigger he may dominate the whole controller! How old is he, by the way?
ZoodulcisModeratorHe doe seem to enjoy those crystals. So why do you include those in this habitat? I assume there is a health benefit.
ZoodulcisModeratorWhich brand, if I may ask, and have you used it before?
