Is Jelly the little human’s pet? My daughter had a beloved ball python when she was little. A very affectionate animal.

    Good for you Ruth.

There is research to indicate that they may eventually reach their full growth, but due to their previous neglect, it may take longer. Because of that same neglect, the potential for MBD will still be present for several more weeks. You do faithfully dust their prey items with Calcium with D3, I presume?

That is odd behavior. Maybe her little brain responds best to rapid movement, less to squiggly movement. Do you think that’s possible?

I had not heard of the black pepper trick. Let us know if it continues to work!

If he did that he would resemble Kermit less and less as his girth gets bigger and bigger. How long have you had him?

It’s worth a try and if it works, fly traps would be easier to dispose of than wiping of Tanglefoot. They should be replaced frequently (weekly) because depending on where you live and the ambient humidity, they can dry out pretty fast.

Good name, because that is one green creature! How many crickets per week does that ‘hoppy’ pet consume?

Sorry, the substrate looks a little like tiles from the photo. Not sure about the cornstarch thing but it seems unlikely.

These reptiles are obligate carnivores, so all of their vegetable matter must come from the stomach contents of prey items. This is just the way they evolved and long as the items are gut loaded with both non-oxalic greens and occasional foods high in beta carotene, she should be OK. If you haven’t already done so, check out the care guide on the Critter Depot main site on Savannah Monitors. There may be some feeding tips there you haven’t run across yet.

I’m not sure whose mental health is suffering the most these days, school kids or their parents. Kids must surely miss their classmates. Entertaining pets seems to be able to give kids comfort and a healthy distraction, which must help to keep the parents sane!

Holy mackerel, that’s a lot of cleaning! If you do decide to use Tanglefoot, place a thin bead on newspapers around the outside of the tank only. This is not for use where it can come into contact with his little feet.

The fact that they leave the crickets alone makes me think there is a colony under the tiles. Let us know if that is what you discover.
