ZoodulcisModeratorOK so that’s not it. I have asked around and people have mentioned that theirs did that too, and then suddenly just stopped. Others felt it was definitely a threat display and that eventually, they will get over it.
ZoodulcisModeratorI think his nefarious strategy for attention is brilliant! Is he your one and only reptile pet?
ZoodulcisModeratorOh that’s good. She does seem sweet. How old is she now?
ZoodulcisModeratorShe does look pretty fine. I don’t think you should worry just yet.
ZoodulcisModeratorHuh, no clue but it doesn’t seem right. Are you certain she is not pregnant?
ZoodulcisModeratorThat is too cute for words. I think it is my favorite for this month. How old is Gilbert?
ZoodulcisModeratorYou are correct. Decreased temperatures and shorter day length brings on brumation. Some reptiles kept indoors never go there, depending on the light and ambient temperatures. But for a beardie to initiate it now seems unlikely. Keep a very sharp eye on him. What sort of substrate is he housed on?
ZoodulcisModeratorOh that does seem more likely. White-sided?
ZoodulcisModeratorShe is bound to relax the most hidey spots she has.
ZoodulcisModeratorA very pretty girl. What do you think of her coloration? A Pied-sided Ghost?
ZoodulcisModeratorYep…they do grab right on to your heart. How old?
ZoodulcisModeratorFor not being photogenic, this is a really nice shot. How old is Cricket? Do you think he/she will get friendlier over time?
ZoodulcisModeratorMost lizards pick up sounds in the 500-4,000 Hz range, with a peak sensitivity at 700 Hz. The ultrasonic devices generally emit sound at 65,000 Hz, well above the hearing range of your beardie.
I did some research and it turns out that these units do have some effect. They generally reduce the numbers of ants but do not eliminate them entirely. Also, the size of the room and proximity to the problem area seem to make a difference. So while you may potentially be wasting your money, you will not harm your beardie. They seem pretty inexpensive, so perhaps you should experiment and go for it!
ZoodulcisModeratorI can pretty much guarantee that you will see a positive difference. Let us know in a couple of weeks if she seems more relaxed.
ZoodulcisModeratorShe may not be very hungry, but I bet she is definitely stressed. If it were me, I would leave her be, other than attending to her water, for two weeks. I wouldn’t even offer her food. I know it seems counterintuitive, but others who have had this problem with new pets have changed their expectations for the first 14 days with arthropods, reptiles, and amphibians that were new to their home, and have always reported satisfactory results. We want to feed them as a sign that we are providing for them and for the reassurance that they are healthy and happy, but non-mammals do life so very much differently, it’s almost hard to comprehend. Leave her alone for a while and I bet (I hope) that she will be a different girl in a while.
