ZoodulcisModeratorGosh it sounds like you have his attention. I wonder what is stopping him? I wonder if the size of pinkie is identical to the size they were using in the store?
Always glad to help conscientious pet owners who are trying to do the right thing!
ZoodulcisModeratorGreetings!
I am so glad that big Chonkers is still among the living. Now, onto the tricky part. Tong feeding is not just a matter of presenting a dead thing right in front of your pet’s face. It is an art form, one that can be a bit gross. Regarding pinkies, the trick is to make them ‘dance.’ Macabre I know. But the point of tong feeding is two-fold. One, is to keep your fingers safe, and two, is to fool your pet. To do this effectively, the dead prey must seem virtually alive. Review some Youtube videos of people tong feeding their pets, any pets. Focus on their technique for making the prey seem to be alive. It may be that this is what the pet shop people are good at, while you may need some more practice.
I hope this was enlightening and my fingers are crossed for you and Chonkers. Don’t hesitate to check in again with questions and observations.
ZoodulcisModeratorSoundsa well fed but not too much so. Do you take him out and handle hiim pretty much daily?
ZoodulcisModeratorWhat a sweety! What is his/her name?
ZoodulcisModeratorLooks like a nice place to lounge. Did your humans get you as a lockdown buddy 5 months ago?
ZoodulcisModeratorOK she is a picky eater, a little bit. The next thing to try is feeding her fewer prey items more often. For the next month, prey items should be offered three to four times daily. Super inconvenient, I know, but this phase won’t last forever.

ZoodulcisModeratorNo need to worry. Your entry into the contest has been noted.
ZoodulcisModeratorShe is too young to be concerned about veggies right now. Give it another month and then offer her strawberries or raspberries. You may have to experiment with different foods to find the right combo. For now, while she is growing, she needs well-supplemented insects all the time. Gut load them with greens as well as meal to help with nutrition in that regard. Dust with calcium D3 powder every day for the next several weeks and then back off to every other feeding.
ZoodulcisModeratorCricket couture! How long did it take him to nail that hat?

ZoodulcisModeratorAdorable! Have they been introduced to each other yer?
ZoodulcisModeratorTrue. There is no way to claim you have had her all her life until she shuffles off this mortal coil or goes to live with someone else.
ZoodulcisModeratorWhat an interesting hobby!! Have you always been fascinated by insects?
ZoodulcisModeratorShe is very focused. Have you had her all her life?
ZoodulcisModeratorTotal concentration going on there. How old is he?
ZoodulcisModeratorIt is normal for these guys to adjust their colors. They will change colors if they go from a light to a dark substrate. They also change colors with mood. My guess is that he/she is responding to the illumination levels and is not sick or suffering from a skin disease, at least if that is the only thing that you have noticed changing. In a way, it’s good news, because with chytrid fungus and other nasties, the color change from dusk to daylight illumination would not be happening easily and regularly. Good observation of your pet is the best way to keep the little guy healthy and prevent illnesses from taking hold, so good for you in noticing this color change in your pet and getting some input about it.
