ZoodulcisModeratorGood question! Both I suspect. Who is the artist?
ZoodulcisModeratorYes and his expression is so intimidating! Your crickets or your life!
He really is gorgeous. Is he a color morph? If so, what is it called?
ZoodulcisModeratorAs soon as he is done shedding. He looks like he has every reason to be cranky right now, but soon he will feel like a new beardie!
ZoodulcisModeratorIt sounds like a great deal of fun, and really interesting. When do you think you will acquire another one? Are these monitors expensive where you live?
ZoodulcisModeratorIt looks like a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Are these beardies related? I’m guessing not, but maybe they are. If not related, are they male and female?
ZoodulcisModeratorProbably just as well. When she is a bit older she can probably assist with the care the way my daughter did when she was seven. It does help to teach responsibility.
Most scientists that study zoonoses, diseases transmissible to humans from animals, such as Salmonella, recommend that young children wash their hands extremely well after handling their reptile pets. Not much different than being coronavirus cautious, so no biggie there. Just something I always remind forum members with small children that handle lizards, snakes, and especially turtles.
Was acquiring Spot her idea, or yours?
ZoodulcisModeratorWow! Dayan really knows how to stock up for you! That’s very smart and you are lucky to have him.
Does he take you out to play with him everyday?
ZoodulcisModeratorShedding is always a challenging time. But you will feel so much better when it’s over! Dayan is really on the cricket gut-loading action. Sounds like he really loves you. I bet he enjoys watching you snag those roaches. How many of those does he give you each week?
ZoodulcisModeratorWhat a cute! I bet he is a lot of company for her right now. Is she good about cleaning his enclosure and feeding him?
ZoodulcisModeratorIt sounds like you plan to get into this professionally. Do you have business strategy with monitor breeding or is this just going to be a long term passionate hobby?
ZoodulcisModeratorNo wonder you are such a healthy-looking boy! Does your guy Dayan gut load all of your crickets?
ZoodulcisModeratorHas your son had him very long?
ZoodulcisModeratorGood for you!
Just a quick behavioral tip… many keepers recommend not handling a pet daily. Handling is stressful, until they are really used to it and come to enjoy it. Daily stressors seven days a week, without 48 hours to decompress and let the adrenergic system chill for a while, can reduce the animal’s immune system response. You may not have meant literally every day, but if you did, then just take my comment under advisement, and consider giving her a break from daily handling, maybe once per week or so.
ZoodulcisModeratorMonitors are considered by most keepers and many scientists to be the most intelligent of lizard species. What other dwarf monitors are on your wish list?
ZoodulcisModeratorHappy un-birthday! How many crickets do you eat each month?
