ZoodulcisModeratorA reptile room is always a good way to go where possible. But a lot of new owners want to observe their new and novel pet constantly, and they forget about how stressed out the animal might be. One of my side gigs is research on stress, in people and animals, so my mind tends to go there pretty easily.
ZoodulcisModeratorYep, the keymaster is correct. Start with the care guide written by the house zoologist (me). Then, if you still have questions, be sure to post them here. I generally get back to people within 24 hours.
ZoodulcisModeratorAB is right on about checking the environmental parameters. I will add one additional thing, since these are wild-caught and not used to people walking by, staring at them, etc. their stress levels are constantly elevated. Stressed wild animals tend not to eat. Put a cover over the front of the tank to provide a visual screen for a few days. Then take it off for a few hours each day next week, and eventually when they are used to you and you know they are relaxed and eating, you should be able to leave the cover off.
ZoodulcisModeratorGood to hear from you again AB. Your advise is excellent as usual.
ZoodulcisModeratorDoes Hagrid know you have his dragon? 🤣
ZoodulcisModeratorQuite safe, but not terribly nutritious. Better to offer romaine or kale occasionally.
ZoodulcisModeratorOh…that’s different. Yeah, that would make their games a bit stressful. Is Petri afraid of her? If so, I wouldn’t blame him!
ZoodulcisModeratorSounds like a lot of fun, Petri. Why does dad hate your games with Zina?
ZoodulcisModeratorI know, they were simpler times, in some ways better, I think. Is Beans your only beardie?
ZoodulcisModeratorYummy!!! Where do you buy your hornworms?
ZoodulcisModeratorI am unable to identify this plant. So until you know what it is, I’m with Cecil, just direct his attention toward other goodies.
ZoodulcisModeratorSomething about the user name and the pet’s name reminds me of Beanie and Cecil. I’m giving away my age, but it was a terribly cute show back in the day. Is that the inspiration for these monikers?
ZoodulcisModeratorIt seems as though he is about the age when they start doing that. Do you try to handle him anyway?
ZoodulcisModeratorDoes he flick hairs when irritated?
ZoodulcisModeratorHard to be certain, but it sure looks like ranunculus to me. Otherwise known as buttercups. These cause strong contact dermatitis in all animals. They are considered poisonous. Most animals avoid them because of the bitter taste, but they should definitely be kept out of your beardie’s reach just in case.
