ZoodulcisModeratorI’m not sure how funny frog is able to see that your frogs are having a great time, because I can’t find them at all! But I do agree that this seems like a very attractive and even posh set-up for your guys/ gals. What are their sexes?
ZoodulcisModeratorOh that’s good. It is what most people do and it seems to work best for their lizard’s longevity. It is something that I do too. I do have an undertank pad for when I have reptiles (which I don’t right now), as in winter my house can get down to 55 degrees, which is WAY too cold for any self-respecting poikilothermic pet. But diurnal animals do like darkness at night. That pad makes everybody happy and healthy, with natural sleep cycle maintained.
ZoodulcisModeratorWhat an interesting job/hobby you have, removing serpents from a monastery! One thing you might try is acquiring a couple of well-illustrated field guide to snakes indigenous to your area. This can sometimes be a speedier way to ID an animal than depending on the internet.
ZoodulcisModeratorLooks like it is going pretty well. Do you mist more often during this time?
ZoodulcisModeratorThat is very good to know. I am a little surprised it only lasts a couple of months, but if it’s on all the time that makes sense. Most keepers recommend turning the light off for at least 10 hours very night. I am curious as to why you keep yours on all the time. Is it for the warmth?
ZoodulcisModeratorShould be plenty of space for this pretty little gal.
ZoodulcisModeratorOh, you are an angel! Aren’t ball pythons the best!! I am glad you were able to find the time to respond, as I was thinking about you.
I was sprucing up one of my blogs on the human-animal bond and my latest post was a lovely story about a group of elementary schoolers who acquired a therapy animal for their school, and also were instrumental in an award of $100,000 for the animal shelter the doggie came from. Very happy tidings.
Then I wrote an article for another venue on ‘zoonoses’, diseases transmitted by animals to humans. It turns out that there are real liability considerations still in place for students handling reptiles in a classroom setting. They are getting better, and much less paranoid, every year, as teachers and administrators are being made more aware of the power of the human-animal bond. Nevertheless, I wondered if you had a handwashing/sanitizing routine in place, as well as a waiver for all students who will be handling the reptiles directly. I really, really, really want to see folks like you offer this information and these experiences to children, and never have to worry about unfortunate consequences from a helicopter parent, etc.
Just some practical thoughts from a former zookeeper and co-worker with Joan Embry (San Diego Zoo), back in the Johnny Carson days. Now I am really dating myself, so I will stop here 🙂
ZoodulcisModeratorThat is a very sweet picture and a nice thought. Does Lokey have a nice hide where he can get away from family attention or even shed when he needs to?
ZoodulcisModeratorDo they last pretty well?

ZoodulcisModeratorDear Max,
You look like a happy, healthy boy. You are very lucky that your mommy loves you so much. Keep being a good boy and tell all of your mommy’s friends to keep giving you critter golds and you may very well get the Christmas gift you both want so much. Happy Holidays,Santa’s Moderating Elf
ZoodulcisModeratorWell that makes perfect sense. Short for Denise perhaps! What made you decide to get a chameleon to begin with?
ZoodulcisModeratorWhat made you decide on Denny for a girl?
ZoodulcisModeratorHe sure blends in with his environment, even though he is a different color from the flower petals. Took me a few seconds to find him. Is he an anole?
ZoodulcisModeratorOh I see now that its Denny. How old is he?
ZoodulcisModeratorWhat’s the name of this party animal?
