ZoodulcisModeratorYes, there is the creep factor with roaches. Was this little girl the only offsping in a recent hatch or were there more? If more, did you sell them?
ZoodulcisModeratorOh my goodness, brooding a potbellied piglet. Now that is mother love. I wonder if anyone has ever compared the oxytocin levels of a silkie’s brain with that of other commonly raised poultry breeds? Speaking of oxytocin in the bird brain, may I suggest that you read the thread between myself and misfitcritterco on this forum concerning her personal relationship with her special bird. You might find it quite uplifting, I know that I did.
ZoodulcisModeratorThank you so much for your response! I too have found that animals know when you are sick, having a bad day, experiencing something really negative and so forth. My mother had a cat that was definitely ‘her cat’ when I was a teen who was sick with the flu every for Thanksgiving for at least 5 years running. Blubus McTubbus (my name for him, which he hated) was not a fan-boy of moi by any means, except when I had the flu during a family holiday. Then he was at my side every single time, snuggling against me, purring even, whether I had a fever or not (so that particular variable can be laid to rest). Although he didn’t dislike me, he just preferred my mother, no harm, no foul. His behavior when I was sick was so extremely contrary to his usual mojo, that it has stuck with me over 40 years. Therefore, for those you may know that say you are mistaken, or worse, it’s just a chicken, pay no mind, for there are truths about the animal mind and heart that science does not yet fathom. As with your syndrome (and it’s called a syndrome because there is a cloud of lack of understanding about it, at least at this time) your experience of a compassionate companion animal displaying what can only rationally be interpreted as empathy is completely valid. There may be many explanations out there for the possible ‘why’s’ that this may be so, which is wonderful, and makes this an interesting time for you to experience this with your silky girl. Just give the doubters their say, smile, and move on, knowing that you are not alone. Prayers for a successful procedure on the 31st and do keep us updated on how Funky responds to you post surgery.
ZoodulcisModeratorI love the backward leg action. Is that a required part of the pose, or is it improv. How old is this yoga master?
ZoodulcisModeratorA very funny mispelling, as loose roaches could indeed be a source of discord for many people. How do these roaches differ from dubia roaches as a food source for El Chapo. Bigger, smaller, more crunchy?
ZoodulcisModeratorGlad to be of assistance. That same gut lad formula works well for dubia roaches too, if you decide that crickets cricking in the house are not your thing. I have found its best raise crickets in a shed or garage, if you have one.
ZoodulcisModeratorDiscord Roaches?
ZoodulcisModeratorShare and Enjoy. What foods besides crickets do these herps share and enjoy?
ZoodulcisModeratorPete’ Dragon! Of course, silly me I should have figured it out on my own. What else besides crickets does he dine on?
ZoodulcisModeratorMaaarrrrty….come out, come out wherever you are. How long have you had him and do you try to handle him at all?
ZoodulcisModeratorThey do seem inseparable! 20-30 crickets per day means that they are well-fed younsters. How old is each one?
ZoodulcisModeratorIf he is wielding knives with all four feet then he must threaten the uncooperative while hanging by his tail! Do remind El Chapo to never take a knife to a gunfight, especially when a cache of crickets is at stake. How many crickets each week does it take to satisfy this greedy overlord?
ZoodulcisModeratorEl Chapo is fashionable yet suitably intimidating. What about his behavior makes you say he rules the house? Does he hold you at gunpoint until you give up those crickets he knows you must hiding?
ZoodulcisModeratorJust by way of helpful hint, I have had poor experiences with trusting pet stores to always gut load the crickets that they sell. That was years ago, and I now know better, as do other herp fanciers that are now sadder but wiser. When you get a chance, you might want to check out this very affordable and easy peasy gut load recipe contained right on this very site!

Hope you find this information helpful. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to the Mom and Daughter duo. Please let us know if you do decide to use this formula and what you found the results to be.
ZoodulcisModeratorFlick does look like a happy fellow. It seems as though you have an interest and talent for close up and personal small pet photography. Is this a business or a hobby? Are there any tips you have to share with readers on tricks for getting that just perfect animal shot, because they seldom cooperate and never smile and stand or lay still when you exclaim those timeless words “say CHEESE”. Animal photography can be an enormous challenge for people who are used to landscapes or portraiture. All suggestions gratefully accepted here.
