DorianParticipantThis is my beardie Komodo. She is a fancy bearded dragon. She really loves her crickets and loves to pretend she can’t see me.

Autumn21ParticipantLove the name!
-
November 8, 2021 at 7:40 am #28390
ZoodulcisModeratorYeah that is a truly great name. How old is she?
-
November 8, 2021 at 10:32 am #28391
DorianParticipantThank you. She is almost 5 months.
-
November 8, 2021 at 11:45 am #28392
ZoodulcisModeratorIs she your very first beardie?
-
November 8, 2021 at 12:46 pm #28393
DorianParticipantYes! I love her so much. It is fun watching her grow and try new things. My mom has a leopard gecko that is 19 years old. I am trying to take as good of care of komodo as she has her gecko.

ZoodulcisModeratorThat is awesome! 19! That speaks very well about the care that pet has been given. A wonderful example to follow. What new things has she currently done to amuse and amaze?

DorianParticipantShe likes to sleep with her back legs dangling off her hammock and finally goes into the tunnel in her tree. She loves to sleep in her tree but she hangs off it while she sleeps. She likes to hold my finger through the glass.
-
November 10, 2021 at 3:08 pm #28416
DorianParticipantMy mom was holding her today while she was on her phone and komodo was very interested in the screen.

November 11, 2021 at 7:01 am #28424
ZoodulcisModeratorThat’s great! She’s definitely ready to graduation to a leash.

DorianParticipantI was wondering if anyone explain how to tell if a bearded dragon is a girl or boy.
I am just assuming komodo is a girl but would like to know for sure. -

DorianParticipantIs there a chance during brumation that a bearded dragon can die?
-
November 20, 2021 at 7:33 am #28559
ZoodulcisModeratorI have not heard of this happening. However, freezing temperatures would probably do it. Anything above 50 should be quite safe.

ShannonParticipantThank you I was just wondering. This is my first winter with komodo.
-
November 20, 2021 at 10:36 pm #28567
DorianParticipantSorry I didn’t realize I was on my moms account. I wanted to thank you for your reply on my own account. I do not know much about brumation and was worried.
-
November 20, 2021 at 10:37 pm #28568
DorianParticipantIs there a possibility that they won’t go through brumation?

Autumn21ParticipantHey Dorian do female or male bearded dragons live longer?
-
November 19, 2021 at 10:11 pm #28553
DorianParticipantI think a male would but I’m not sure.
-
November 20, 2021 at 7:34 am #28560
ZoodulcisModeratorMales live longer than females that have experienced multiple pregnancies, as a rule. Other than that, with proper care in captivity they are pretty much the same.

DorianParticipantIs it important for a bearded dragon to go through brumation? I don’t think mine is.
-
November 25, 2021 at 7:55 am #28613
ZoodulcisModeratorIt is only important if you plan on breeding a female in the spring. Other than that, it is entirely up to you. Some people like their reptiles to brumate over the winter holidays if they will be traveling or entertaining and need a break from pet care, but if that isn’t you, and you want to enjoy a more active pet over the winter, just keep the temperature up. Daylength will indeed have some effect, and your beardie may be a little more sluggish than usual, but that’s OK and nothing to be concerned with. After the solstice, she may start perking up more. It’s OK to handle her if she is not going to be deliberately brumated, just expect a lower level of energy from her.

StormChanceParticipantHi Dorian. I am Chance and I am 11 years old too. My bearded dragon is Rex.
-
November 29, 2021 at 9:50 pm #28641
DorianParticipantHi Chance. I really like the name Rex. How long have you had your bearded dragon?
-
November 29, 2021 at 10:56 pm #28642
StormChanceParticipantOnly 10 weeks. I got him from someone who moved away. I’m pretty sure he is over a year old. I also have a turtle and frog in my room.
-
November 30, 2021 at 9:22 am #28646

Autumn21ParticipantIs it a baby or is it an adult? What breed of turtle
-
November 30, 2021 at 1:47 pm #28652
StormChanceParticipantI guess I’m not sure. I got it the same time I got rex.
