      Critter Contest

      This is Puddle, a Jackson’s Chameleon. He is definitely a grumpy little man, but he is great at modeling for photos! He loves large crickets and hornworms. For some reason he hates water, but I guess that’s understandable. Anyways, this is Puddle everyone!

      He does have a sort of Oscar the Grouch expression. Does he allow you to handle him at all? And if he hates water, how does he stay hydrated?

        He doesn’t like being handled much, but he lets me take him out to put him on a hibiscus plant. He LOVES the hibiscus. He stays hydrated because after he is done having a fit over the mister, he drinks some droplets from leaves.

          Hibiscus has always been a favorite with some of my reptiles, especially tortoises. Do you mist him with warm water?

          My Jackson’s prefer a gentle rain (with filtered chlorine free water). They also avoid the misters also and would rather drink their water straight from the spray bottle! Fred will actually shake his head “no”if he’s not thirsty! He uses the same head shake to let Martha know he’s “in the mood” The babies will leaf lap.
