He looks ready to come and take those crickets by force! How old is he?

Yeah he looks like sassy would describe him pretty well. Does he like to be handled, or just have crickets handed to him and them be left alone?

He’s very calm while being handled but has so much sass that I can’t stop thinking every time he does that my 16 year old doesn’t even give that much lol

Nice 16 year old! Lucky you. Does she do most of the care-taking?

That’s awesome. I love to hear kids of any age caring for an animal well. it not only teaches responsibility, if fosters empathy and becomes a lasting emotional modality into adulthood. So important. Do you all have other pets?

We have 2 cats named Noodles & Buzzard. Noodles found my daughter in the back yard about 6 years ago and he’s been with us ever since. Buzzard was my elderly landlords cat that we inherited when she passed 3 years ago. We also have a Guinea Pig named Dream Catcher (Dream for short). A Ball Python named Bone Crusher ( my bf named her). 4 chickens named Capten Levi, Suga, Chicken Fries, and Memas Chicken. A rooster that’s a butthead. Along with a heard of cows that have taken over the back yard. We share the property with a small starting farm. 4 horses named Blaze, Jasper, City, and Hope. 5 mini horses named Willow, ChloĆ©, Sanchez, Bliss, and Suri. My daughter works with and takes care of Willow. They have been a Dream team in 4H for about 5 years now. Willow has helped my daughter with her anxiety and autism so much and thur this pandemic they have become so close. My daughter does horses chores twice a day and then takes care of her animals while being on Homebound from the school. She suffered a concussion back in late August and then her bus was in an accident 2 days later and now 5 months have passed where she is still suffering from symptoms of her concussion. She has seen so many doctors and specialists and had to stop going to school due to the concussion. So with the animals help and the help from 2 wonderful teachers that take time out of thier busy days my daughter is able to start getting caught up on everything she has missed due to her injury. She is so strong and even placed at the State level in 4H this passed summer with Willow and having a concussion.

Your daughter must be made of some very heroic stuff. A concussion during covid! She must be a real trooper, and it’s so awesome that you have so many animals and animal-centered activities she can benefit from. Caring for horses, cows, pigs and goats helped my daughter (now an adult) learn responsibility and consistency, important for a young person with ADD.

You may already be very aware of this author, but if you have not read the book “Animals Make Us Human” by Temple
Grandin, you should try to check it out of the library or order it through Thriftbooks. Dr. Grandin is autistic herself, as well as being an expert in the livestock husbandry field. She really gets the benefits of animal-assisted therapy and recreation experiences on wellness for folks old and young with special needs.

Oh, and that is one massive zoo you have going on there. Are all of the full-sized equines saddle horses? How do you manage all of those critters? I have two house cats and a herd of goats and its all I can do to keep them all happy. Hoof trimming is sometimes the bane of my existence.

Sorry to jump in here, but if itll help you my son uses OHDELA home school. they send you computers free (gotta return at end of year) and its pretty easy to understand with live teachers for every class. Best homeschooling out there (ive tried a few). That way she can be home without missing any school, besides whats needed. If you need the info for this year or next, if not, disregard. lol
