Black Soldier Fly Larvae or Crickets?

We see it first hand; crickets are the most popular feeder insect. But why? We wrote this article comparing crickets to BSFL, and there’s overwelming evidence that BSFL are the superior feeder insect:
- BSFL have an excellent calcium-to-phosphorus ratio (crickets don’t have an excellent ratio)
- BSFL are easier to digest than older crickets due to less chitin
- BSFL have more fat, which is great for reproducing reptiles and amphibians
- BSFL handle cold temps better, and are far more likely to survive winter transits.
We think crickets certainly have their benefits, but BSFL takes the cake.
