
In order to plan and maintain a healthy colony of feeder insects, you need to know how quickly they grow, reproduce, and die. There are two main kinds of feeder bugs: those that go through a metamorphosis (like mealworms), and those that hatch from an egg and get larger until they’re mature (like crickets). Most feeders are mature in a few weeks, but some can take up to six months to reach reproductive maturity. Some will die after a few months, others can live for years.
