If the humidity is correct, I think he may be in pain. Reptiles and amphibians, along with many mammals, tend to close their eyes when they are extremely uncomfortable but not in immediate danger. Cannot address the matter of dots around the eyes without more information. A severe mite infestation might make him close his eyes to protect them, but there is also a possibility that it is something internal, like compaction. What has his diet been like recently? Is there any chance he may have eaten something rough and indigestible in terms of substrate?
