
The brown house cricket (Acheta domesticus) is the standard cricket you will find at the pet shop. The banded cricket (Gryllodes sigillatus) is a distant cousin of the brown house cricket. These two are very similar, but have a few key differences. The biggest difference between banded crickets and brown house crickets is in the health issues they have. Brown house crickets do significantly worse in confined spaces, and this makes them prone to many more health problems, like iridovirus, cricket paralysis virus, and densovirus.
